HIV/AIDS Advocacy through Cultural and Sports Events

This program aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction in the Nyanza region of Kenya. This initiative leverages cultural practices and sports as platforms to engage communities, educate participants, and promote healthy behaviors.

Education – Teaching Volunteer Program​

The Education–Teaching Volunteer Program focuses on enhancing educational outcomes for students in primary and secondary schools. Volunteers will engage directly with learners, providing support that fosters a love for learning. 

Internship

Program

The Internship Program provides hands-on experience for students and recent graduates interested in development work. Interns will gain practical skills while contributing to ongoing projects on health education, community development, and resource mobilization.

Lake Victoria Cultural and Biodiversity Program

This program aims to promote the rich cultural diversity of the Lake Victoria region while simultaneously addressing biodiversity conservation challenges. Volunteers will engage with local communities to foster understanding of cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.

Practical information

Volunteering duration

It depends on your availability. Anywhere between 2 weeks to 18 weeks is possible. 

Volunteering fee

The volunteering fee depends on the volunteering duration. 

  • 2 weeks: $ 1 650

  • 4 weeks: $ 1 892  

  • 6 weeks: $ 2 233

  • 8 weeks: $ 2 574

  • 10 weeks: $ 2 981

  • 12 weeks: $ 3 300

Fee breakdown 
  • Program dedicated supervision: 

It covers the professional oversight provided by experienced local coordinators who ensure that volunteers are effectively integrated into their projects and receive the necessary support throughout their stay.

  • Hotel accommodation: 

Volunteers will be accommodated in comfortable, safe hotels or guesthouses that offer basic amenities, ensuring a pleasant stay while allowing them to immerse themselves in the local culture.

  • ​Meals: 

This includes three meals per day featuring local cuisine, providing volunteers with an authentic culinary experience while supporting local food vendors.

  • Airport pick-up and drop-off:

Volunteers will be greeted at the airport upon arrival and transported safely to their accommodation, as well as returned to the airport at the end of their program.

  • Local transportation to the program site and back to the hotel: 

This fee covers daily transportation costs between the accommodation and project sites, ensuring reliable travel arrangements.​

  • Project work and materials:

This includes all necessary materials and resources required for project implementation, enabling volunteers to contribute effectively to community initiatives.

  • Cultural activities & excursions:

Volunteers will have opportunities to engage in cultural activities such as traditional dance classes, cooking workshops, and guided tours of local attractions, enriching their experience.

  • Project preparation: induction/training & monitoring:

Before starting their projects, volunteers undergo an induction session that includes training on cultural sensitivity, project objectives, safety protocols, and ongoing monitoring throughout their service period.

  • Reservation fee:

It consists of 10% out of the total volunteering fee and it is paid after signing the volunteering contract, to secure the spot. 

Recommended skills 

General Skills

Relevant Educational Background: A certification or ongoing coursework related to public health, education, environmental science, business administration, Information Technology, Project Management, Grant Writing and Fundraising, Nursing, or social sciences is preferred but not a must.
Experience in Community Work: Previous volunteering or professional experience in community service projects enhances a volunteer’s ability to adapt quickly to local contexts.
Cultural Sensitivity: An understanding or willingness to immerse yourself into cultural dynamics within Kenyan society is crucial for effective communication and collaboration with local communities.
Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is essential
Commitment to Volunteerism: A genuine passion for making a difference and a willingness to engage with diverse populations are vital attributes for all volunteers.

Specific Skills

Some volunteer roles may benefit from specific skills or experience. Examples include:

 

Volunteer Mission Trip - Medical Outreach Program:

• A background in healthcare (nursing, medicine, public health) is preferred but not mandatory.

• Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid is an advantage but not a must.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for community service.
• Ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to local customs.

 

Health Care – Hospital Work Volunteer Program:

• Relevant educational background or experience in healthcare (e.g., nursing students, medical interns).

• Strong interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients.

• Willingness to learn from experienced professionals.

• Basic knowledge of medical terminology is beneficial but not required.

Education – Teaching Volunteer Program:

• A background in Education or related fields is preferred.

• Passion for teaching and working with children/youths.

• Creativity in developing engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse learning needs.

• Patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential.

Lake Victoria Cultural Diversity and Biodiversity Conservation Program:

• Minimum age of 18 years.

• A background or interest in environmental science, cultural studies, or related fields.

• Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with diverse communities.

Caregiving - Orphanage Volunteer Program:

• Minimum age of 18 years.

• Experience working with children or relevant qualifications in social work or education is preferred.

• Compassionate nature and strong interpersonal skills.

• Ability to adapt to challenging environments.

HIV/AIDS Advocacy through Cultural and Sports Events:

• Age: Minimum of 18 years old.

• Educational Background: A Certificate/ Diploma or ongoing studies in Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or related fields is preferred.

• Skills: Strong communication skills; experience in community engagement or event organization is an advantage.

• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English; or any basic knowledge of Swahili or local dialects is a plus.

• Commitment: Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends during events.

Internship Program:

• Age: Minimum of 18 years old.

• Educational Background: Current enrollment or recent graduation in fields such as Development Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Project Management, Grant Management and Fundraising, IT-related fields, or similar disciplines.

• Skills: Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Language Proficiency: Good command of English

• Commitment: Must be able to commit for the entire internship period without interruption.
