Supporting excellence at "La Voie" school

As the sun rises over the bustling city of Lomé, students at "La Voie" school eagerly wait for a day filled with learning, growth, and opportunities. Togo's education system faces significant challenges and the road to educational excellence is paved with obstacles. Learning poverty, a concept that measures the percentage of children unable to read and understand a simple text by age 10, remains a pressing issue in Togo. According to 2019 data from the World Bank, learning poverty in Togo stands at a staggering 86%.

Our initiative

In response to these challenges, Wild Geese has partnered with the local NGO Acet-TOGO to launch an initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating academic excellence. Our pilot project focused on "La Voie" primary & secondary school. We distributed school kits to top-performing students, containing essential supplies such as textbooks, notebooks, pens, and other learning materials that many students in Togo struggle to buy. By providing these resources, we aim to remove one of the most significant barriers to learning and academic success. The selection of recipients was based on academic performance, ensuring that hard work and dedication are rewarded. This not only supports the top students but also serves as a powerful motivator for their peers, fostering a culture of excellence within the school.
